Eighteen months on, FIA CEO Katherine Raskob discusses her impressions of the sector, emerging challenges, what she wants to achieve, and how we’ll get there.



 

I’ve been the Chief Executive for Fundraising Institute Australia for about a year and a half and have spent quite a lot of my time travelling around Australia to meet as many of our 1,200-plus members as possible. One thing still stands out for me: the passion of fundraisers. In this era of decreasing government support, I’ve seen first-hand how hard they work to raise funds to deliver vital programs and services to their beneficiaries.

What I’ve found even more gratifying is how willing fundraisers are to collaborate. Coming from the marketing sector where people are less inclined to give away their trade secrets, I’ve been blown away by the sharing of tactics and strategies at events like FIA Conference and state forums.

At my first FIA Conference in February, I was also surprised at how many delegates attended, keen to learn and share. In my previous role, we had a two-day global forum that was popular, but it never had the kind of…
