Global animal health company, Zoetis, announced the launch of their foundation, committing US$35 million over five years.
Global animal health company, Zoetis, has announced the launch of the Zoetis Foundation strengthening their journey to a healthier, more sustainable future through their commitments to communities, animals and the planet.
The world’s largest producer of medicine and vaccination for pets and livestock has committed US$35 million over five years with grantmaking focusing on building opportunities for veterinarians and farmers. Initial scholarships and diversity initiatives will focus on the US veterinary community with the view to expand the work and geographical scope of the foundation in 2022.
This expansion will include veterinary debt relief, additional DEI programming and mental wellness for farmers and veterinarians in the US, and internationally support farmer and veterinary livelihoods in Africa, Australia, Brazil, China and Europe.
“Zoetis has a long history of addressing important challenges faced by veterinarians and farmers. Our new charitable foundation represents the next chapter in extending and driving forward these commitments,” said Jeannette Ferran Astorga, Head of Sustainability at Zoetis and President of the Zoetis Foundation.
“Specifically, the Zoetis Foundation will look for opportunities to address lack of diversity in both professions, the need for resources that support emotional well-being, financial burdens such as veterinary student loans, and lack of access to a higher standard of animal care in underserved areas.”
The news comes just prior to Zoetis publishing their 2020 Sustainability Report Our Journey Toward a Better World documenting their work on environmental, social and governance topics in line with their strategic pillars: Care and Collaboration, Innovation in Animal Health, and The Drive to Protect Our Planet. In 2020, Zoetis donated over US$6 million to community support in 2020 with 9.6% of that invested in COVID-19 relief.
In Australia, Zoetis teamed up with Beyond Blue, donating $5 from the sale of every Zoetis product sold from July to October 2020. This donation brings the total up to $500,000 donated over five years.
