The future of the Fundraising Institute of New Zealand (FINZ) is under threat. Can you help save the peak fundraising body?
Like many fellow nonprofits, FINZ has felt the impact of COVID-19. Having to postpone or cancel numerous events and activities – the bread and butter of the organisation – it soon found its future in jeopardy.
Despite pivoting to online events and seeing a 350% increase in participation, the Institute was facing a crippling $70,000 shortfall.
Something needed to be done.
At first hesitant to reach out to their supporters – donors and organisations in similar financial situations thanks to the global pandemic – the Institute’s Michelle Berriman approached friends of FINZ, Precision Group.
Together with Kiwi business partner, Fred Soar ([email protected]), Precision’s Cory Hall felt confident that other suppliers and friends would be passionate about ‘supporting the profession of fundraising throughout Australasia’ and help save the Institute.
Launching 18 August, the FINZ Emergency Appeal is calling on the fundraising community to lend their support in any way for what is, possibly, the world’s first international matched funds appeal for a professional association of fundraisers.
The appeal will be documented as a case study by international fundraising archive, SOFII, as it goes live via direct mail, digital and telemarketing to fundraisers throughout New Zealand and Australia.
A Matched Giving pool of up to $20,000 has been generously donated by FINZ’s corporate supporters, and pledges of financial support and endorsement from the likes of Ken Burnett, Adrian Sargeant and Australia’s own body, FIA, have kick-started the campaign.
For those in the industry, it comes as no surprise to see fundraisers supporting fundraisers.
And that’s where you come in.
From January to April this year, FINZ educated over 1000 fundraisers, showing that now more than ever, the nonprofit sector needs guidance and leadership from national bodies.
FIA’s Katherine Raskob is calling on anyone who can pledge their support and increase the Matched Giving pool to get in contact with her, or Precision’s Hall via email. Communicate your intent to pledge by Friday 14 August and see your company name and logo appear as a supporter of this world-first campaign.
