Local Queensland cancer care facility adds fundraising functionality to website and sees donations soar.
Bloomhill Cancer Care is a local cancer care facility based on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. The charity was established by the local community to provide care and support for people living with cancer in the region. Despite being well recognised in the area the charity was failing to reach a larger audience as its website had no fundraising capability and was not intuitive to the needs of the growing charity.
Bloomhill Cancer Care decided to take control of its online space by engaging not-for-profit website developer, Joyful to create a site that offered flexibility and autonomy around content and fundraising. Joyful helped to create a site that could be independently managed by Bloomhill Cancer Care to fix the online issues they faced.
The brief was two-fold: to create the ability to amend the content of the site to reflect the challenges facing the charity; and perhaps more importantly adding the capacity to collect donations on site.
“Within weeks of going live the website saw donations through the site increase from $0 to over $100k.”
Matt Linnecar CEO, Joyful said: “NFP’s often come to us with outdated websites that are very difficult to use and miss simple steps in design and functionality that gives NFPs maximum bang for their buck. Bloomhill Cancer Care was unable to fundraise through its site and was relying on Facebook Events to promote any fundraising initiatives. We wanted to give the charity not only the ability to fundraise but also have a big event focus on the site and make sure everything could be managed from one central space”
Beth Aldrich, Spokesperson for Bloomhill Cancer Care said: “For a long time we had been working with a one size fits all website template that didn’t fit our needs and wants. We were tired of having to change our plans to work with an outdated, rigid website and needed something that would make our work easier and give us control of our online space.”
Key Goals achieved
Joyful created a website which was intuitive to the changing needs of the charity and incorporated the function for the charity to run its first ever Annual Giving Day through the site.
Within weeks of going live the website saw donations through the site increase from $0 to over $100k. This equates to 57% of target reached in that timeframe.
By controlling its online presence Bloomhill Cancer Care has not only seen increase in overall donations but has allowed for all areas to be managed centrally.
Aldrich continued: “Our website now is incredibly user friendly and intuitive to our needs. It’s so easy for us to make changes and not be working from such a basic template that offered us little flexibility and have it work for us rather than the other way around. What’s perhaps more important for a charity like us is the return on our investment has proved hugely beneficial.”
