In F&P’s monthly charity events rundown, find out what organisations in the fundraising sector have been doing over the past few months.

OzHarvest

What was the event? The 2017 CEO Cook Off
When and where was it held? It was held in Sydney on March 6.
How much did you raise? We raised $2,092,803, an upgrade form last year.
What was the net profit? $1,726,437 which was also up from last year.
How many people participated? We had 125 CEO’s, 40 Chefs and 5960 donations.

 

Sir David Martin Foundation

What was the event? The Abseil for Youth is Sir David Martin Foundation’s (SDMF) major annual fundraising event to raise money for Triple Care Farm – an award winning youth rehabilitation program based in NSW which helps young Australians struggling with substance addiction, mental health illness, family breakdown, homelessness and unemployment get back on their feet. Abseil for Youth challenges everyday people to ‘Face their fears’, ‘Rise to the challenge’ and abseil down a 33 story/ 135m Sydney skyscraper to raise money for young Australians.
When and where was it held? In 2017, we celebrated the 8th annual Abseil for Youth event on the 12 and 13 October at 1 Market Street, Sydney.
How much did you raise? The event this year raised over $277,000 – this is up from 2016 results of $240,000
What was the net profit? The net profit for this year was just over $140,000 – this is almost double from the 2016 net profit.
How many people participated? Overall we had 243 registered and fundraising abseilers, and a total of 289 people abseiled, this figure includes media and celebrity abseilers and student/ young people from Triple Care Farm.
Other comments? Over the last eight years the event has managed to raise more than $2 million for Triple Care Farm. The Farm helps over 100 young people a year turn their lives around. The cost for just one young person to complete the Farm’s program is $27,000 – Which SDMF helps to cover through generous donors and events every year. A video of the event can be found here.

 

Bobby Goldsmith Foundation

What was the event? The event was BGF’s Last Ever Bake Off. Bake Off is a fun, community event that has been running for 30 years where community bakers enter cakes that are then judged by celebrity chefs.
When and where was it held? The event was held on 10 September 2017 at The Beresford Hotel, Surry Hills in NSW.
How much did you raise? We raised $19,900 which was up from last year.
What was the net profit? Our net profit was $10,200 which was also up on last year.
How many people participated? We had 200 people participate which was more than we had last year.

 

The GI Cancer Institute

What was the event? The Larapinta Gutsy Challenge.
When and where was it held? The event was on August 5-20 and involved trekking 80km of the Larapinta Trail, near Alice Springs.
How much did you raise? We raised $106,000 this year.
What was the net profit? We made $100,000 profit.
How many people participated? 17 brave people participated in the trek.

 

Property Industry Foundation

What was the event? The Melbourne Corporate Charity Cycling Day.
When and where was it held? The event was held of November 17 in the Yarra Valley, Victoria. The riders could choose to ride either 50 or 70km.
How much did you raise? The event raised in excess of $80,000.
How many people participated? There was over 130 riders from the property industry.
Other comments? PIF partners with its charity beneficiaries and the property industry to build homes to reduce youth homelessness. Over the last 5 years they have invested $6.5m into vital programs, helping their Charity Partners to rebuild young lives.

 

Wesley Mission

What was the event? The Wesley Mission Take Charge of Your Life Program saw participants zipline down the AMP Centre in Sydney.
When and where was it held? The event was held on October 20 and 21 atop the AMP Centre in Sydney. Participants travelled 20 stories down via the Big Zipper.
How much did you raise? More than $111,000 has been raised.
How many people participated? Around 160 people participated representing a number of different charities.

 

Chris O’Brien Lifehouse

What was the event? Walk With Lifehouse, which is a one-day 28km trek.
When and where was it held? The walk went from Otford to Bundeena, NSW in the Royal National Park on October 14 2017.
How much did you raise? We raised $142,252 in what was the events first year.
What was the net profit? The final profit was $116,163.
How many people participated? We had 116 people participate in the walk.
Other comments? We were delighted with the interest and support – the feedback has been overwhelming positive that we will be holding the event again in 2018.

 

The Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research

What was the event? The MACA Ride to Conquer Cancer, a 200km ride across 2 days.
When and where was it held? The event was held on October 22 and 23 and the ride was from Perth to Mandurah and back in Western Australia.
How much did you raise? In 2017 the riders raised $4.1 million in total which was up from last year.
How many people participated? There were 855 riders. This was down from the previous year, making the increased profits even more amazing.
