The Victorian Multicultural Awards for Excellence are aimed at organisations who have made outstanding contributions to strengthen the multicultural community.
The awards are split into 10 categories as follows:
- police awards
- media award
- government and civic leadership award
- community innovation award
- youth award
- education and early childhood award
- multicultural business award
- Premier’s award for community harmony
- award for meritorious service to the community
- Victorian multicultural honour roll.
VMC Chairperson, Helen Kapalos, said, “As the voice of our multicultural communities, the Victorian Multicultural Commission is extremely proud to be running these awards for the 16th year. For us, this is the perfect opportunity to say thank you to those Victorians who are leading the way in strengthening social cohesion.”
Luke Walters, a SBS journalist, received the 2016 media award for his reporting on the South Sudanese community, along with his mentorship on aspiring South Sundanese journalists in Victoria.
Nominations close midnight, Monday 21 August. Recipients will be honoured at a special ceremony at Government House later in 2017. To nominate an individual or organisation fill out the form here or follow the links on the website to submit online.
