Australia for UNHCR: ‘best in class’ retention


Alisa O’Malley explains how Australia for UNHCR achieved the best retention rate for face-to-face in the most recent donorCentrics benchmarking review.


Australia for UNHCRWe are very proud of our in-house face-to-face fundraising team at Australia for UNHCR. Established in 2004, it is one of the longest standing in-house teams in Australia and now operates in four cities: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide.

Our in-house face-to-face team, alongside a small number of fundraisers from two agencies, recruit over 15,000 new regular givers each year. In fact, 70% of our existing 55,000 regular givers were recruited via face-to-face.

There is no doubt that face-to-face has been fundamental to Australia for UNHCR’s success over the last 13 years – we are now UNHCR’s eighth largest fundraising partner. And with the number of refugees increasing every year and ongoing funding from governments becoming more uncertain, UNHCR depends on the generosity of the public to provide essential humanitarian aid.
