“I never thought I’d end up working for a university, let alone in philanthropy. I probably couldn’t have pronounced the word back then, or known what it meant,” says Deborah. Back then was 1991 when Deborah was one of the first graduates of what was then UWS Nepean.
It has proven to be a good thing that she did find her way back to her alma mater and towards philanthropy. In 2014, the year after Deborah joined Western Sydney University, the total value of gifts to the University was approximately $2 million. By 2016 that figure had risen to over $15 million.
Before she found philanthropy, Deborah worked in communications in the finance industry and co-founded a garden centre and landscape business. After a stint back in the corporate world, she found herself wanting to do something more meaningful and took up a role…
